Teen Scuba Camps

More Activities at Teen Scuba Camps

There’s more than diving at Sail Caribbean’s teen scuba camps. Imagine yourself at the helm of a 50 foot sailboat, ten crewmembers awaiting your commands. Venture of Tortola crosses the finish line, as the team celebrates its victory. The British Virgin, and Leeward Islands offer some of the best sailing areas anywhere.

Sailing

Sail Caribbean offers you the adventure of sailing, scuba diving, watersports and island exploration. Students, grades 6 through 12, live aboard large yachts with teens in their age group and sail collectively as a fleet. You don’t need any previous experience to join our teen scuba camps. What you do need is a eager attitude to learn new things plus a yearning for challenge and adventure.

Seamanship

In preparation for the day ahead, you, along with several crewmates, may take your turn cooking breakfast in the galley. Others may go for a quick swim before making the boat ready for our 3 to 4 hour sail. Under the guidance of a staff skipper and assistant, each crew learns the basics of sailing. With practice, you and your crewmates become an effective team, running the boat on your own. Daily sails provide an opportunity to combine curriculum with hands-on experience. Challenges of the sea make each sail a new adventure in learning. Cooperative spirit grows quickly for everyone at our teen scuba camps. It takes a coordinated group effort for the crew to dock the boats on their own but with supervision. We practice often, and take advantage of the conveniences offered at the marinas we visit every three or four days. Each crew has a daily meeting  with their staff captain.

Water Sports

With the anchor set at your new destination, you select from many activities like kayaking, snorkeling and beach sports. A light steady breeze is just perfect for learning windsurfing. You might try kneeboarding, wakeboarding or waterskiing. There is something new for everyone. Go snorkeling with a buddy over a coral reef and discover the marine world below filled with colorful fishes, rays and other wonders of the deep.  Learn more about Teen Scuba Camps.

Small boat sailing helps you to improve and expand your individual sailing skills. At the Bitter End Yacht Club on Virgin Gorda we spend several days sailing Rhodes 19′s, Lasers, Sunfish and Hobie waves.

Marine Science

Marine biology and oceanography exposes our students to new ideas that provoke lasting interests and concerns for the ocean. Learning more will help inspire you to become concerned and take action to preserve the waters of our planet and the creatures that inhabit  them.

Friendships

Beach activities like volleyball, lacrosse and frisbee give you time with your friends from other boats. These teen scuba camps offer the best of both worlds:  the close friendships of your own crew and a community of teenagers from every corner of the globe

Experienced Role Models

Mike Liese, founder and director, has run teen scuba camps in the Caribbean for over thirty years. His staff all meet rigorous standards for proven skill, experience, sound judgment and most important, the ability to relate with teenagers. Every member of our staff is an expert, accomplished in teaching and responsible in their positions not only as role models, but as friends too. The staff encourages each student to attain his or her personal goals along with the variety of sailing and scuba diving certifications offered.

Island Exploration

We’re on land as much as we’re on and in the water. One of the favorite areas we explore is “The Baths”, a beach that’s a mile long covered with huge boulders. Hikes up mountain trails give us magnificent views of all the islands we visit. Some nights are spent as a group dancing to local calypso, reggae and steel bands. Other evenings are dockside or at anchor where we kick back and socialize under a sky full of bright stars before turning in. The Sail Caribbean teen scuba camps offer you challenges and accomplishments shared with new friends.
